Calling families in Montérégie (close to Montreal)

Posted by Irina:

We are starting a small group of friends not a support group (at least not yet) in Montérégie close to Montreal island (Brossard, La Prairie, St-Constant, Ste-Catherine, Greenfiled park, Longueuil etc.)  to do things like parks, ice skating, toboggan sliding, biking etc. and then maybe if there is interest we could do something else. The idea is to give the kids an opportunity to just run, play, talk and became friends if they want to, both in English and French. We would set some time for hopefully weekly activities via email or phone. Then confirm in the morning who is coming and that way there will be at least a couple of families hopefully who can meet every week. There are already 4 families who would like to start. Come on and join us!

McGill study looking for subjects 9-12 yrs

Posted by Christine:

The purpose of the study is to learn more about children’s ability to report true or false statements of an event. We want to find out how accurate children’s memory can be, and their ability to reveal or conceal information. Also, we wish to examine how well adults can tell the difference between true and untrue reports.

Winter vacation rental for homeschoolers

Posted by Rhonda:

Our homeschooling family will be in Costa Rica this winter and we wanted to offer our house to any homeschoolers in Montreal who might be interesting in renting a house this winter in the Eastern Townships. We're renting our place for much less than other homes in the area and are hoping another homeschooling family (or maybe two to share?) will be able to enjoy the change of scenery and experience the beauty of winter in the countryside.

Study: Structured homeschooling gets an A+

Montreal, September 8, 2011 — “There’s no place like home,” an iconic line uttered by Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, might apply to learning the ABC’s, math and other core subjects. A new study from Concordia University and Mount Allison University has found that homeschooling — as long as it’s structured or follows a curriculum — can provide kids with an academic edge.
