The Armand-Frappier Museum is offering 2 workshops at Communidée:
11am to 12pm - The five families of microbes
With its scales of size, this activity helps you discover the world of the infinitesimally small. Participants will be able to become familiar with the names and forms of microbes while developing their motor skills, memory, creativity and powers of observation!
Subject : Protozoa, molds and yeasts, algae, bacteria, viruses
Means : A team contortionist game where you must react to the five families on the spinner. A rather physical activity!
1pm to 2pm - A family likeness
A family likeness broaches the theme of genetics and heredity by explaining how a physical trait is transmitted from parent to child. What is the likelihood of having blue eyes or brown hair? Does it all come down to genes? Using boxes that represent parents and babies, participants will take on the task of reconstituting their genotypes (their genetic material) and their phenotypes (their visible characteristics).
Subject : Laws of heredity, resemblance, genotype, phenotype, dominance, recessiveness.
Means : A game of probabilities dealing with the mixing of parental genes. In this context, to whom would you give birth?
Cost: $5 per child per workshop for members, coupon-users and drop ins
or $7 per child per workshop if you haven't paid for the day
