Hi there,
This may seem silly, but I didn't know where else to ask this question. I've never needed a babysitter for my three kids before now, and I need to have an idea what other parents are paying their babysitters, so that I know what to pay ours. The day of the week is a Saturday, time from 3pm to 3am, and she's a family friend and also a homeschooler. I'm having her stay over since she doesn't drive yet, and I have to go pick her up and drive her home the next day. She lives approx. 15-20 minutes away. My children are 8, 4 1/2 and my 2 1/2 year old is completely potty trained, so no diapers or training pants to deal with. Dinner's pre-made and only has to be reheated. I'm also supplying rented movies and an abundance of munchies. Obviously I told her she goes to bed when ever she wishes, and does not have to stay up until 3am.
With this info, can anyone give me an idea what I should be paying her? Is it flat rate or a per hour thing now? And does the age of the babysitter have anything to do with what you pay? Like an older adult versus a young teen?
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, thanks thanks!
Heidi

It might interest you to know that the rate in the Mauricie area (Trois-Rivières, Shawinigan) is $4/hr!
Good question
I've had the same question, Heidi. We use a babysitter about once a month, or less for about 2. 5 hours, so my wife and I can go out to dinner. Our sitter is an adult. She looks after her own transportation. We feed the kids before we go, so all the sitter has to do is play with them for an hour and put them to bed. We pay her about $10/h. If I recall, the original agreement was $9, but we always pay a little more than that.
My kids are 2.5 and 5.
