Dr. Neufeld elaborates on the role of context in teaching and in particular, the role of the dynamics of attachment, maturation and vulnerability in learning and behaviour. Educators gain insight into why things work when they do, as well as why teaching sometimes fails to translate into learning. It truly does take a village to raise a child. Parents, mental health professionals, early childhood educators, early years specialists, caregivers and teachers all play a vital role in supporting the growth and healthy development of our preschoolers & young children. In Ontario, many of our youngsters are in childcare environments, and we continue to move towards full-day kindergarten with somewhere around 50,000 of our four-and-five year olds attending full-day programs as of September 2011.

In this presentation, Dr. Neufeld will focus on making sense of the preschooler & young child, leading us into a grounded understanding of their inner landscape. A foremost authority on child development, Dr. Neufeld will provide pivotal insight into the often perplexing behaviors that cross our environments including; impulsiveness, shyness, separation anxieties, egocentrism, aggression, resistance, oppositionality and more. Today’s presentation will be an invaluable resource for all those who support the healthy development of preschoolers & young children, revealing critical implications for parenting, teaching, programming, early intervention and treatment.
