We are planning a Halloween party on October 30th in the evening. Details will be announced as soon as they are all worked out...
Meanwhile, we will make a pinata and some decorations for the party during our Thursday gatherings at the Baha'i Centre. Here are the plans so far - (feel free to add your ideas and plans by using the comment feature):
Thursday October 16 - start pinata and make some decorations
Pinata: balloon, newspaper, flour, shallow bowl (for balloon), large bowl (for papier mache paste), vegetable oil, plastic table cloth
Decorations: we can each bring our ideas and some supplies (construction paper, scissors, glue, markers, cotton balls, wool, pipe cleaners, etc...)
Thursday October 23 - finish pinata and make more decorations
Pinata: coloured tissue paper, glue, string, stuff to go inside (make stuff to go inside?)
Decorations: same as above
Thursday October 30 - carve pumpkins, put up pinata and decorations, prepare for party
Pumpkins: each family could try to bring a pumpkin, bowl, knife, candles, matches
Other stuff: tape, string, stick (for hitting pinata), balloons, streamers, plastic dishes (?), napkins, table cloths...
Please use comments to let everyone know what you can contribute or if you have any other ideas or suggestions. For now let's concentrate on the first Thursday (Oct 16) and what we need to start the pinata and make some decorations. Who will bring what is the question : )

Thurs Oct 23rd and the 30th
Hi, we can come next week (finally worked my schedule out!) and we'll be there for the party. I can bring pumpkins as we'll come by car. Let me know who needs pumpkins :) I can come to the door before going for parking and bring them in with the stroller! ;)
Oh yeah, I have a great stick that we use for our pinatas, it's actually the handle to my vilada mop. You can shrink it down for the little ones, and make it longer for the older ones. Works well, but it does hit pretty hard. I can bring that on the 30th.
Christine.
pinata supplies
I'm bringing liquid glue (for the gluten-free formula), two balloons (if we want separate pinatas for the little kids and big kids), and shallow bowls for holding balloons still.
A demain!
Kim
I will bring cornstarch
I will bring cornstarch instead of the flour. Not a problem!
Beth's contribution
Beth (who isn't online) will bring newspaper and a large bowl, as well as construction paper and other supplies for decorations.
allergies
Would anyone be opposed to a gluten free papier mache? Here is a recipe I found online,
2 cups cornstarch
Add 1 cup water and mix in as best you can. ( will be powdery after completely mixed )
Add 1 cup Elmer’s Glue and mix till all the lumps are gone
Both of my kids are allergic to wheat (among other things), and while it isn't a life threatening allergy, they would not be able to participate in playing with wheat papier mache.
I wish I could say that I will bring the ingredients, but I am really not sure I can carry anymore. I would be totally willing to pay though!
Jody
allergies
Ya for sure we can go gluten-free. I'll ask Ana to bring corn starch instead of flour.
pinata and pumkin
I've never make a pinata, but don't we have to put stuff inside first?
For stuff: boîtes de raisins secs? barres de fruits en gellée? all in individual package
Also for pumkin, a lot of us are in bus or metro, so it would be nice if someone with a car or who live near could bring pumkin for everybody. It's not expensive and my kids will be sad if everybody have pumkin except us...
See you!
pinata & pumpkin
I've never made a pinata either, but thanks to the interweb I am able to read the directions of those who have! They say to leave a hole in the top and load it with stuff at the end. So we don't have to worry about the contents for now, but I like your suggestions of healthy treats!
As for the pumpkins, I see how coming on bus and metro with three kids and a pumpkin would be difficult if not impossible. We can arrange something like you suggested - one or a couple of people buy for everyone.
I can bring flour and oil.
I can bring flour and oil. How much of each? I have no idea! :)
flour and oil
About 2 cups of flour and just enough oil to cover the balloon so the papier mache doesn't stick to it.
