I am a homeschooling mother of 2 boys ages 9 and 6.This is our first year homeschooling and it has been an overwhelming success.Despite difficulties at our local school there were several positive experiences that we came away with and one of them was a fundraising event to help build a well in an Indian village.
I would love to tackle this project from a homeschoolers perspective and with the encouragement of Sopar(see below) and some help from you we could easily make this happen.
Sopar provides a very comprehensive kit that includes educational info,a video, activities to do with your students and tips on fundraising. This can all be downloaded or mailed directly to the project manager. What I am proposing is that we come together as a group of 10 families who would then pledge to raise 75$ each towards the 750$ needed to build the well. This fundraising could be done within the various groups that each family belongs to or simply at home, shoveling snow for neighbors etc. This is open to anyone interested regardless of location.
It is a very unique opportunity to raise awareness on water related issues in the world while offering our children an opportunity to do something about it! These wells help communities in India fight against water borne diseases, improve hygiene conditions and reduce the workload of women and children who would otherwise have to walk long distances to fetch water for their families.
It is best to connect to the site to get a good idea of the scope of this project and what a rewarding experience it could be for all involved.
