New to homeschooling

Hi I've just taken my daughter out of highschool, she is 14 and in Grade 9.  She also has learning difficulties and high anxioty.  She is not at a grade 9 level so I'm thinking of starting at gr.7 and redoing everything.  My questions are,  am I aloud to do that and where can I get supplies, books ect., I bought one at Chapters but it is to difficult so I'm going to get easier ones.  I have no idea what is required of me or her.  Can someone give me some advice please?  I live off island towards Vaudrueil.  Thank you so much.

Don't worry

Hi Alison,If your daughter is suffering from anxiety, she'll probably need quite a bit of time to relax and enjoy learning again. Some people find that it works for them and their children in this situation to go through a period of deschooling until their child starts feeling ready for academics. Other people find that it works for them to go back a few steps with the academics, as you're doing. The main thing to do is to help your daughter regain confidence in her own abilities and to help her find joy in learning. As far as whether you're allowed to do that, your goal is to get your daughter to where she needs to be and you'll probably find that if your daughter is willing and ready (emotionally as well as developmentally), even if you go back two grades, in the long run she'll zip through the work in half the time it would take to learn it in school (or less). There are loads of resources available, such as the libaries, the internet and through organisations such as Centre Communidee and Imagine Education. I live on the West Island and also have a 14 year old daughter who's homeschooling, so if you'd like to meet me for a chat, you can contact me.

sounds great

Thank you for the advice, I'm slowly getting her into reading again I figured that would be a good start and she picked her own books at Chapters.  I would love to meet sometime, I'll let you know a day that is good.  I'm a little stressed but taking it one day at a time!  Thanks for the reply, its nice to hear positive comments, wish more people were more understanding.  Take care and bye for now.                                                    Alison
