Hi Alison,If your daughter is suffering from anxiety, she'll probably need quite a bit of time to relax and enjoy learning again. Some people find that it works for them and their children in this situation to go through a period of deschooling until their child starts feeling ready for academics. Other people find that it works for them to go back a few steps with the academics, as you're doing. The main thing to do is to help your daughter regain confidence in her own abilities and to help her find joy in learning. As far as whether you're allowed to do that, your goal is to get your daughter to where she needs to be and you'll probably find that if your daughter is willing and ready (emotionally as well as developmentally), even if you go back two grades, in the long run she'll zip through the work in half the time it would take to learn it in school (or less). There are loads of resources available, such as the libaries, the internet and through organisations such as Centre Communidee and Imagine Education.
