privacy?

I am concerned that a post I made showed up on my "google alerts." I was able to see the post without signing in. Is it possible to make this forum private? I am uncomfortable that posts, locations, etc. are posted for all the world to see. How is it safe for our children to be at an activity that anyone can find out about?

What do other members think?

I am trying to strike a balance between openness and privacy: as of now, only members can access the members' section, post to the forums, and sign up for events, but the site is otherwise open to the public. However, I can make the forums private if that is what people want.

I don't mind

I don't really mind one way or the other. If others want to make the forums private, that's okay with me, but I don't mind that it is open to the public.
I wonder though: how is it not safe? (Especially since as homeschoolers, we always accompany our children to all activities, right?)

How is it not safe?

I for one do not let my kids run out of sight, and so I understand why your wondering how this could not be safe. My concern is mostly about the fact that just about anyone could learn about our activities and hang out waiting for an opportunity. How many times have you been chatting with another grown up and realized that you weren't watching your child....even for just a moment?

I have belonged to several home school groups and other groups that revolve around children and honestly, this is the only one that is not private. All the others seem to feel the same way I do, and do not announce their activities to the world. I understand that you want the site to be found by new families, but new families in my other groups find our home page and then fill out a request to join.
