Organized by Doug H:
Montreal Homelearners Barbeque, Picnic, Sailing, Pirate, Swashbuckling Event
On Monday, September 14, 2009, Woods Hudson Elementary (Issac's private homeschool), is pleased to invite all the Montreal Homelearners to the Canadian Forces Sailing Association in Dorval for a day of sailing, dressing up like pirates if you want, barbeque, picnic or just running around with a view of the water.
Sailing
We will be sailing on a "Whaler". A Whaler is a big 27 foot open boat that can seat 10 people easily. There are three sails on this boat - a mainsail, a jib and another sail on the mizzen mast. It is gaff rigged and is similar to the boat that Captain Jack Sparrow sailed to the dock at the beginning of the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie.
Signing up
Please sign up below or by contacting Sonya. Space is limited, and this is a popular event!
Timings
You can arrive anytime after 9:00 a.am. We probably won't start sailing until around 10:00 a.m.. We should be finished by 3:00 p.m..
Food
Bring what you want to eat, we have barbeques and a fridge to store perishables.
Lifejackets
If you have a lifejacket you can bring it, but we have plenty, and I verified that we have plenty in kids sizes.
Sunscreen
It is a good idea to bring sunscreen.
Clothing
Wear warm comfortable clothing. It is a good idea to bring a raincoat or windbreaker. Shoes should have a rubber sole for better grip on the docks and in the boat.
Safety
Kids must wear a lifejacket on the docks (club rule) and when in the boat.
