Storytelling and Bookmaking Workshop at Librairie Drawn & Quarterly

(I have organized this workshop just for homeschoolers: Wednesdays 1-3pm. See this post for details.)

Storytelling and Bookmaking Workshop at Librairie Drawn & Quarterly
For KIDS! (Grades 2-3 and Grades 4-5)

2 sessions, 8 weeks in total

Grades 2-3 Saturdays October 4, 11, 18 & 25th & November 1, 8, 15 & 22nd
Grades 4-5 Sundays October 5, 12, 19 & 26th & November 2, 9, 16 & 23rd

Time: 9am-11am

Fee: $150 for each 8-week session. The fee covers all supplies.

Course Description: This 8-week Storytelling and Bookmaking course will
offer kids a chance to explore modes of storytelling through looking at, and
then creating, illustrated books. The children will experiment in a pressure
free environment, and learn that illustration is a fluid process that
changes over time: our stories and characters evolve from what we learn and
share together. The program includes making sketchbooks, group storytelling
and reading, development of characters, puppet making, collaging, and making
pop-ups, all towards the goal of finishing a book.

Instructor: Iona Fournier-Tombs is an artist and art education practitioner,
with 2 years of experience working with children at the Westmount Visual
Arts Centre. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University, and
is presently looking towards a masters in Art Education.

To reserve a spot for the course, stop by the store (211 Rue Bernard Ouest)
during opening hours to drop off your registration deposit ($85). If you
have any questions, email us at workshops@drawnandquarterly.com or call
514-279-0691 and ask for Kit.

activities for children

Can we not use grades to categorize children, please? As a homeschooler, I have no idea what "grade" any of my children would be in. Let's use ages. We can also discuss why we would separate children arbitrarily by age for activities as well (why wouldn't a child in "grade 3" not be able to participate with a child in "grade 4"?)

grades & ages

I had just copied and pasted the ad as it was written for Drawn & Quarterly.

I hope that you noticed that Iona is now offering the same workshop for homeschoolers on Wed afternoons: http://www.montrealhomelearners.ca/content/storytelling-and-bookmaking-w...

There, we said "For homeschoolers aged (roughly) 6 to 10".

re: Storytelling and Bookmaking at Drawn and Quarterly

This looks just wonderful, Sonya. D&Q is one of Jake's fave Montreal spots. We'll stay tuned for any offering of a weekday home learner time.
