An outdoor scavenger hunt with a digital camera.  Parents go with their kids.  Bring your digital camera and USB cable if you want to upload your pics to the laptop for viewing.  (If you don't have a digital camera, let me know and I'll try to find you one.)

Starting at 10:30am, we'll make our list of what items we'll try to find and shoot.  Examples include: a squirrel, a red truck, the number '8', etc.

Assemble and decorate your own gingerbread house!  There will be a fee of $3 per participant to cover the cost of ingredients. Feel free to also bring some of your own goodies to decorate with.

When: Tuesday Dec 8th, 1-3pm

Where: room 129

We will supply: graham cookies, icing, decorations, and hot chocolate.

Please bring: a container to bring it home it (ideally an ice cream or yogurt-sized container - houses will be around 6" tall).  Also bring a mug for your hot chocolate if you can (we only have a few).

What: Démarche scientifique: an experiment!  Be a scientist for a day and discover how an experiment is conducted.  I am in charge of teaching you the steps, you are in charge of the experiment! -- UNFORTUNATELY, THIS ACTIVITY HAS BEEN CANCELED.

"Tower of fluids" experiment - make your own "density lasagna" and "liquid lava"!  Learning about density of fluids is colorfull and a lot of fun! The best part: you run the experiment yourself and you get to learn examples of where and when you can observe a "tower of fluids" in nature.

What: Learn to make amazing crafts, just in time to give them as Christmas gifts!  The instructor will develop a project complete-able within the 2 hrs and ensure that the children had material enough to finish additional works at home (broaches, scarves and jewelry, arigrumi, etc).  Feel free to come and work on other projects.  Basic craft supplies will be available.

When: two Friday afternoons in a row: Dec 4 & 11, with an exhibit/party on Dec 18 (including the works from 2 other workshops: crochet & felting)

What: Engineering & inventions.  Who are engineers?  How do they invent the things around us?  Meet an engineer and become one yourself for a day as you work in teams to invent something new.  We will play the “space invention game” and learn about the difference between inventions and discoveries.  We will also help Tom, who really likes to have scrambled eggs in the morning, but doesn’t have time to make them before leaving for school.

All homeschoolers are welcome to join us at a Geordie production of A Christmas Carol on Thursday December 17th at 1pm. The play is recommended for kids ages 7 and up.
