Kids will bring in their costumes from home and also use the centre's dress-ups. Melissa will guide them through some simple scenarios and let them play it out. We might also try some simple plays to act out.

Arts & crafts: Plastic Canvas

Plastic canvas is like cross-stich embroidery but easier because it's done on plastic. See Wikipedia for more. 

The kids can get started in making doll figures, treasure boxes, or other decorative objects that might be given as Christmas gifts. They will probably have to finish them at home, but they can return to Melissa for help if needed. All materials will be provided.

Concrete music and sound objects

Class 1 of 2: Introduction to the ideas of concrete music, including sound objects, cinema for the ear, sonic ecology, soundscape, timbral shapes, recording, sound editing, etc. I will bring in some sound-creating objects and give a demonstration of recording them and arranging them to make a demonstration piece. I will also play some examples of concrete music. Children will be asked to spend the week thinking about sound in the environment and finding objects that can make different types of sounds (sustained, short, "grainy", etc) to bring in for the next class, on October 22.  

ballet class for 5-7yr olds

I still have room for anyone interested in ballet classes this fall...I need to confirm our spot at the studio this week, so please reply to me as soon as you can with your child's name, and age...thank you!!!

The classes will be either monday or wednesday from 1:15-2:15 at Studio Nova in Pincourt.
Classes will be for 12wks, from the week of sept 27th to Dec 13th.
Cost is $150 per child, taxes included.

In keeping with the afternoon's book club topic, Melissa will organize some arts and crafts on the theme of the Great Plains of the 1800s.  All materials will be provided, and we will bring in some picture books for inspiration!

We will also make butter!  Bring a small glass jar for each child, the rest will be provided.

Redpath: Dinosaurs of Canada

All homeschoolers are welcome to join us at McGill's Redpath Museum to learn about the dinosaurs of Canada with wonderful and knowledgeable Ingrid.  Then the kids will do a craft - a dinosaur fridge magnet.

What: Math for ages 6-9 (a half hour, $5 per child) and ages 10+ (an hour, $10 per child)

Working from Living Math, the class will explore mathematics through history, covering topics such as Roman numerals, time and travel calculations, measurement, and statistics.
