04/06/2010 - 12:30

Offered by: homeschooling moms Janice & Johanne

We will begin to explore the wild, wonderful and wide world of the arts in French.  We will cover basic French vocabulary which we will reinforce each of the 4 weeks. The objective is to inject French learning while doing something fun in the arts.  Hands-on art projects for the children are scheduled for each week.  This is not however a French-second-language-for-newbies class, it's an art class as described in the objectives.  For all ages - parent participation is obligatory.  Please sign up before Wednesday March 31.

This book club is geared toward the younger kids, ages 6-8, so will be more parent-led and include hands-on activities.  The first book will be "Tonight on the Titanic"/"Les dernieres heures du Titanic" by Mary Pope Osborne.  In this meeting, we'll discuss the book, decode a message in Morse code and see how much of an "iceberg" is underwater.  I also have the accompanying "Titanic" research guide from Mary Pope Osborne and we'll talk a little about the difference between fiction and nonfiction and what lessons we learned from the Titanic tragedy.

Scholastic Book Club

The Montreal Homelearners group has created an account with Scholastic Books - a great place to get discounted books.  Thank you to Melissa who is administering it for us : )

We will be placing an order around the middle of every month.  To place your order, have a look through the pdf flyers at Scholastic.ca, or the hard copies which will be available next week at Centre Communidée.
