Just wanted to give anybody who was interested a heads up. Real science 4 kids curriculum is on special right now. It's 20% off for any bundle. This is a big deal since they hardly ever go on special and are one of the few places that refuse to be a part of the buyers co op (so far).
Also they now sell the books all in paperback and in digital formats so you can save some money there as well.
the link to their site is http://www.gravitaspublications.com/ then just go to products.

Community Schooling Math and Science workshops are educational and fun for students of all levels. Our qualified teachers believe in hands on activities to facilitate the learning of students. We understand that students learn best when immersed actively in the learning process instead of passively taking notes or listening to a teacher; this is why our workshops are filled with puzzles, games, manipulatives and experiments. The individual attention in the small groups is also a huge part of the Community Schooling philosophy. The Community Schooling Workshops are a great supplement to the homeschooling experience.

Two experienced science teachers along with Community Schooling would like to offer a Homeschool Science Fair. This would be an event for homeschooled children from all around Montreal, where they enter science projects and others (parents and children alike) are able to see them and marvel at their discoveries.
This was recently posted on the Events list:
Registration is now on for the following bilingual workshop dedicated to homeschoolers and taking place at the Pointe-Claire Cultural Center, Stewart Hall, 176 ch. Bord-du-Lac--Lakeshore, Pointe-Claire, Qc, H9S 4J7, 514-630-1220:
Community Schooling on the West Island are offering workshops to homeschooling families:
Due to the high level of interest in the hands on learning workshops, we have organized a schedule of math and science workshops for the fall.
I saw this announced on Events:
* WHERE SCIENCE MEETS ART (Specialy designed for Homeschoolers) (7-12 yrs)

Parents who homeschool want to provide the very best education for their children. There are times when we all could benefit from assistance in one subject area or another. This workshop will provide weekly activities to supplement the homeschooling experience. Activities in this programme include science exploration: math, physics, and biology, followed by art education: drawing, painting, sculpting and much more. Bilingual.
As a frequent peruser of the interweb, I often come across sites or articles that really excite me as a future homeschooling dad. Because I'm a big nerd, these mostly have something to do with science or technology. I've thought about posting these to this website, but I hesitate to spam this place with too many non-Montreal-related items (and I'm not sure how much interest there is in these topics among the group).
Rather than just let these things clog up my bookmarks menu, I've decided to share them through a new blog: HomeSchool 2.0. It's still a work in progress, but a quick visit to the site should give you an idea about the ground it hopes to cover. In addition to online learning resources (courses, podcasts, etc), the main focus will be on software and hands-on projects that have the potential to get kids excited about science and technology. Anyways, I hope you'll check it out. If you have any comments or feedback, please let me know (keeping in mind that it is still a work in progress).
Cheers!
Doug.
